About Sifu Carrie Beaver

Sifu Carrie is a co-founder of The Tiger and Crane. She started training when she was just 12 years old, in 2000 at The Peaceful Dragon under Master Eric Sbarge. She didn’t enjoy it at first and actually cried and argued with her mom about going to class. It didn’t take long for her to realize how much fun it was and she couldn’t imagine living her life without martial arts.  Sifu Carrie started with Kung fu and became an instructor level in Kung fu, Tai Chi, Pakua, Hsing Yi, and Shuai Chiao in January of 2011. Sifu Carrie loves challenging and pushing herself to be the best, and she loves competing in tournaments. She has competed in local CACMA tournaments since 2002 and the annual International Kuoshu tournament in Baltimore, MD since 2003; placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in form, weapon form, continuous sparring, and full contact fighting (Lei Tai). Sifu Carrie became the 2011 International Kuoshu champion in Lei Tai for the 50.1kg – 55kg female division. Learning as a child and now teaching has been a very rewarding process and has taught her how to have more patience and compassion toward others. While training Sifu Carrie also earned her BSN at UNCC then MSN and DNP from Duke University. Sifu Carrie now works as a nurse practitioner at Carolinas Healthcare System in internal medicine.
